A Retro Gem with Character and Contrasts

Our stay at the Brown Acropol in Athens was certainly memorable — a hotel that oozes 60's retro glamour, a touch of urban energy, and plenty of personality.

Perfectly located right next to the Omonia Metro, it's an ideal base for exploring the city. Whether you're heading to the Plaka, the Acropolis, or simply wandering through the city's café culture, everything is within easy reach.

Arrival & First Impressions

The lobby, while small, is stylish and inviting — a space that instantly hints at the hotel's bold, funky aesthetic. The front desk team were so welcoming and even offered us a glass of Prosecco on arrival (though, top tip: you do need to ask for it!).

The entire hotel embraces a 60's vibe — think funky décor, bold colours, and music that perfectly complements the atmosphere. Debs was absolutely in her element, being a huge fan of that era. It's refreshing to see a hotel commit so fully to its theme while keeping it chic and fun.

Rooms & Comfort

Our first room, 601, was a good size with a lovely balcony overlooking Omonia Square, offering views of the fountain and city skyline. It had all the makings of a great stay until a small plumbing issue turned into a shower! When the tap decided to spray water from every joint, the staff handled it promptly and politely, moving us quickly to another room.

Our second room, 503, was slightly larger and initially perfect — until the shower flooded the bathroom due to poor drainage. We also found the electrical sockets concerning, as they came away from the wall when unplugging chargers and hairdryers. These are small details, but ones that do make a difference in a four-star property.

That said, the beds were heavenly — plush, comfortable, and the kind you sink into after a long day exploring Athens. Housekeeping were outstanding too, keeping everything spotless and responding quickly to any requests.

Service & Experience

While the day staff were wonderful, friendly, and helpful, the night service fell short. Returning to our room one evening, we fancied a bottle of wine but discovered there was no room service and, when David ventured out to get one, no corkscrew could be found at reception. The night attendant was unfortunately less than accommodating, which was a disappointing contrast to the otherwise lovely team.

Both rooms featured adjoining doors, which can mean some noise transfer — and yes, our neighbours made their presence known.

The Highlight – The Rooftop

The rooftop bar and restaurant is without question the jewel in Brown Acropol's crown. With breathtaking views across Athens and a vibrant yet relaxed atmosphere, it's worth a visit even if you're not staying at the hotel. You can find more about our experience there by clicking the "Eateries" link below — it truly made the stay shine. 🌇✨

Final Thoughts

Brown Acropol is full of personality — it's stylish, fun, and in an unbeatable location. While there were a few quirks with maintenance and service, the charm of the place, combined with its 60's soul and welcoming staff, made for a stay that we'll remember fondly.

Would we return? Possibly, with a few refinements, it could easily be one of Athens' best mid-luxury boutique hotels.

With love,
Debs & David
