Why We Chose the Royal Plaza Hotel in Montreux

Nestled on the shores of Lake Geneva with breathtaking views of the Alps, the Royal Plaza Hotel checked all the boxes for what we look for in a boutique experience. From its unbeatable lakeside location to its old-world charm and spa amenities, here's why it stood out to us — and why it might be the perfect stay for your next Montreux getaway.

For me, Montreux was the perfect escape — a place filled with beauty, music, and romance. I'd always dreamed of walking in the footsteps of Queen, one of my all-time favourite bands, and sharing a peaceful, unforgettable getaway with David by my side.

The Royal Plaza Montreux was nothing short of exceptional. From the impeccable service to the exquisite cuisine and beautifully appointed rooms, every detail made us feel truly indulged. Our Junior Suite was the epitome of comfort and elegance, offering breathtaking views over Lake Geneva. Paired with the unseasonably warm, picture-perfect weather, it was an unforgettable stay in every sense.

Montreux isn't just known for its serene lakeside beauty — it's also deeply connected to rock history. Freddie Mercury and Queen recorded several albums here at Mountain Studios, which was located inside the Casino Barrière Montreux. Albums like Jazz, Hot Space, and Made in Heaven were brought to life in this very town.

Freddie loved Montreux for its peace, privacy, and the stunning natural setting. So much so that he spent a significant amount of time here in his final years. Today, you can visit the Freddie Mercury statue on the lakeside promenade — a beloved landmark where fans from around the world come to pay tribute.

The Queen Studio Experience, a free museum inside the casino, lets you step into the band's recording space, see original equipment, and learn more about their creative process. Debs is a huge Queen fan and always wanted to visit this sanctuary that Queen called home, Montreux.
